This is a charming adventure, which explores the wildlife-rich forests and cultural heritage of the beautiful Osa Peninsula. Our base is the luxurious Lookout Inn, renowned for its cuisine and its macaws! From here we explore on foot, on horseback, by canoe, light airplane and 4x4 car the wilds of the Osa Peninsula and its famous Corcovado National Park. We meet an amazing old gold miner in the wild interior, who ekes a meager living panning for gold! This is a moderately tough adventure, but fulfilling, leaving you with feeling of achievement!

Day 1: Arrival in San Jose; Taxi transfer to Hotel Villa Bonita or Vida Tropical, your B&B for the night in Alajuela, near San Jose (B).

Day 2: Early morning transfer to the airport for your internal flight to Puerto Jimenez. You will be met by Osa Aventura, who will accompany you on the scenic taxi journey around the tip of the Osa Peninsula to Carate and the luxurious Lookout Inn The rest of the day is yours to relax by the beach, pool or hammock – from the verandah, the owners recently counted 120 scarlet macaws!! Overnight at the Lookout Inn (B, L & D).

Day 3 :Short hike to introduce you tropical rainforests. This will take us to “Shady Lane Waterfall” for a refreshing natural shower. Short pre-dinner night tour along Carate beach to the lagoon to look for nesting turtles and crocodiles. Overnight at the Lookout Inn (B, L & D).

Day 4: Expedition Day to Corcovado! Early morning flight by light aircraft from Carate to Sirena Biological Station in the Heart of the famous Corcovado National Park – the views en route of Corcovado’s forest-clad hills and rugged coastline are spectacular! Now we begin our explorations of this area, which is spectacularly rich in wildlife, and the venue for many wildlife documentaries! Today we explore some of the forest trails around the station, ending up in the Rio Claro for a refreshing swim in one its many crystal-clear pools – we sometimes encounter herds of over 50 white-lipped peccaries! Short night tour to the Rio Sirena to look for frogs, snakes and crocodiles. Overnight in dormitory accommodation at Sirena Biological Station (B, L & D).

Day 5: Canoe trip up the Rio Sirena! This river is rich in fish, and home to bull sharks and crocodiles! We visit the mouth of the Rio Sirena to look for the large bull sharks which congregate there at high tide. Early nights sleep in preparation for our long hike tomorrow! Overnight in dormitory accommodation at Sirena Biological Station (B, L & D).

Day 6: 10-mile hike to Carate. Today we set off on this, yet scenic hike along the rugged and beautiful coast line of Corcovado National Park to Carate, and return the luxury of the Lookout Inn. We have two options for this hike: 1) hike at night, arriving at the Lookout Inn in the early morning, or 2) hike by day, arriving at the Lookout Inn in the afternoon. It’s up to you! The rest of the day to rest and relax after our adventures. Overnight at the Lookout Inn (B, L & D).

Day 7: Today is yours rest and relax in pampered luxury at the Lookout Inn, and reflect on your adventures. Overnight at the Lookout Inn (B, L & D).

Day 8: Alvaro, an amazing old gold miner! The adventures continue! Today we go on an 8-mile hike up the Rio Oro (Gold River), into the remote interior of the Peninsula, to meet an incredible gold miner. His name is Alvaro, and he ekes a meager living panning for gold. He is 68 years old, yet shifts hundreds of tons of rock each year in his search for gold! He is fit and strong, and leads a healthy, yet simple life in the remote jungle. And he is there by choice, not of necessity! “I have everything I need, here!” He boasts. And he has! Alvaro represents a way of life on the Osa - a unique element of the Osa’s culture – which is fascinating, but dying out! You will be amazed by this guy!! Overnight at the Lookout Inn (B, L & D).

Day 9: Return journey by taxi to Puerto Jimenez for your internal flight to San Jose. Taxi transfer to Hotel Villa Bonita or Vida Tropical, your B&B for the night in Alajuela, near San Jose (B).

Day 10 : Transfer to San Jose International Airport for you return flight (B).
